Jayson Tatum is on an amazing path that has caught the attention of NBA fans all over the world. He could make it to the NBA Finals for the second year in a row. With Tatum, the Boston Celtics have definitely found their new star player. This season, he took them to second place in the Eastern Conference.
Before putting on the famous green shirt, Tatum showed off his skills at Duke University, where he played for the Blue Devils in the 2016–17 season. He missed the first eight games but came back strong on December 3, 2016, and went on to play 29 games.
Tatum scored 16.8 points, grabbed 7.3 boards, and passed the ball 2.1 times per game as a freshman, making 45.2% of his field goal attempts. The young star played a big role in the Blue Devils’ run to the NCAA Tournament as the second seed, but South Carolina stopped them in the second round.
He was named to the ACC All-Freshman team and the third-team All-ACC because of this great play, which made him decide to enter the NBA Draft. The Boston Celtics picked him up with the third pick in 2017 because they saw how great of a player he was.
Tatum joined the small group of 25 stars from Duke who made it big in the NBA. Tatum’s play keeps getting better and better as he enters his sixth NBA season. He has been an All-Star four times, an All-NBA member three times, and on the 2018 All-Rookie Team. He has also won titles like Eastern Conference MVP and All-Star Game MVP in 2021-22 and 2022-23.
His great play during the 2022–23 season made people talk about him as the MVP, but he ended up making the All-NBA First Team with an average of 30.1 points, 8.8 rebounds, and 4.6 assists. Tatum has done amazing things so far, even though he is still young.
People often compare him to basketball greats, which shows that he’s not just the future; he’s now. The 2023–24 NBA season is almost here, and there are still questions: can Tatum match or even beat his impressive numbers from last year? Tatum’s next step up is to not only be a great player personally but also lead the Celtics to a title, like his hero Kobe “The Black Mamba” Bryant.
It’s easy to feel excited about what’s next in Tatum’s already impressive career. Will 2023–2024 be the year he leaves a lasting mark? Time will tell.
