In the 2021 NBA draft, the Golden State Warriors selected forward Jonathan Kuminga with the seventh overall choice. In his rookie year with the Warriors, he impressed with his agility and defensive potential.
Kuminga is aiming to improve his skills as he enters his third season in the NBA. In a preseason game against the Sacramento Kings, he recently displayed a fantastic “and one” finish for the Warriors. “Warriors on NBCS” on NBC uploaded their best moments on X (previously Twitter).
In this clip, we see the Warriors’ forward dribbling the ball up the court and then using his athleticism to get a shot off despite intense pressure from the defense. The fact that he achieved it in a fight makes it all the more impressive.
Preseason averages for Jonathan Kuminga have been outstanding: 25.0 points (on 65.4% shooting, including 53.8% from 3-point range), 5.5 rebounds, and 3.5 assists.
Even though there is cause for concern regarding the depth of the Golden State Warriors’ bench, Kuminga’s recent play should be enough to excite supporters ahead of the forthcoming season.
Golden State Warriors forward Jonathan Kuminga talks about his mental preparation for the upcoming 2023-24 season.
Jonathan Kuminga has spoken up about his outlook for his third season in the NBA, as reported by Monte Poole of NBC Sports.
When asked about his goals, Kuminga said, “I just want to keep growing as a basketball player.” Improve your ability to “read” the game. Consistent work that pays off in the long run ensures victory in the game. I remained in the Bay Area so that I could devote as much time as possible to gaming. I was able to get a lot done this summer because I invited several guests over to play.”Kuminga remarked, “I’m just trying to read the game to get a feel for the action and pick up on the tempo and other subtleties.”
Kuminga is eager to take the next step with the Warriors, and his competitive fire and desire to improve are both still clearly alight. Warriors head coach Steve Kerr echoed Kuminga’s sentiments on the topic, noting some facets of Kuminga’s game that will be under close scrutiny.
According to Kerr, “we’re making a big push for him to be an offensive rebounder.” Defenses are also bouncing back. We want him to go down swinging, to give it his all at the end. He’s been rock-solid as a defender on the ball, and we’ll be helping him improve his off-ball skills. And then keep working with him intensively on connecting guys,” added Kerr, “recognizing the time to set a ball screen and dive, the time to run a dribble handoff.”
Kerr mentioned that defensive potential was one of many traits that the Warriors hoped to see further developed in Jonathan Kuminga. We will work on strengthening his defense as well as his offensive and defensive rebounding.
