To capitalize on the addition of the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner, Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami will play two games in China next month.
The regular season for Miami’s MLS team, who did not qualify for the playoffs, will end on the road against Charlotte on October 21.
No games are scheduled for the club in November, but players like Messi will want to stay in condition for upcoming World Cup qualifiers and national team games.
The club will play Qingdao Hainiu on November 5 and Chengdu Rongcheng on November 8 in two exhibition matches against two teams from the Chinese Super League.
Inter Miami’s chief commercial officer, Xavier Asensi, is enthusiastic about the club’s future plans to increase its international exposure. “We are very excited to continue to expand our club’s global reach,” he stated.
“This is a special opportunity to share the passion as we reach new audiences and put ourselves on display in new places and we’re looking forward to beginning this adventure.”
Following Messi’s arrival in July, Miami’s global social media following exploded, and in August, the club won its first title, the Leagues Cup.
However, Miami’s playoff drive sputtered as the team’s hard schedule caught up with them and Messi missed many games.
