Jayson Tatum, a forward for the Boston Celtics, started playing basketball in the YMCA league of St. Louis when he was four years old. He was already very good at what he did when he played for his elementary school team and the neighborhood AAU team. Tatum went to Chaminade College Preparatory School, which is where his star kept shining. After that, he played for Duke University’s Blue Devils.
Tatum has always loved his city of St. Louis, which is why he volunteers with many groups in the area. This made the 24-year-old want to start his own charity.
Tatum started the Jayson Tatum Foundation to encourage and help kids and teens through sports, education, and mentoring, according to the foundation’s website. Since 2017, the Jayson Tatum Foundation has given St. Louis kids and adults a number of programs that are meant to give them more power.
Role models who are doing good things in the St. Louis neighborhood talk to the 100 kids and teens. The purpose of this leadership and basketball camp is to help people find and get active in activities that make their families, schools, neighborhoods, and communities better places to live.
Through their interactions with guest speakers like Jayson Tatum, the kids and teens also learn how finding their life’s meaning can help them reach their full potential and make a difference in the world.
A fact sheet from the charity says that the Jayson Tatum Foundation does more than just hold the annual Basketball and Leadership Camp. It also helps and donates to other St. Louis-area agencies and organizations. Donations and help are given during important times, like the holidays and back to school.
Since 2017, the Daddy and Deuce Toy and Coat Drives and collections of new backpacks and school materials have been ways to help people. Kids and teens in St. Louis can also get gloves, scarves, toys, hats, and books from the Jayson Tatum Foundation.
Programs for mentorship
There is also a mentorship program for kids and adults in the St. Louis area through the Jayson Tatum Foundation. Its goal is to make things better for kids, teens, and their families, no matter what their family income is. But those who are having a hard time get extra attention. Kids and teens can get help and advice with their schoolwork through this program.
