Mason Greenwood might be able to return to Manchester United.
It has been reported that Mason Greenwood may be able to return to Manchester United after his season-long loan at Getafe is over. Greenwood’s long-term status at United is still up in the air; United may decide to bring him back next summer.
Richard Arnold, the chief executive of United, stated in August that Greenwood had reached an understanding to continue his career this season outside of Old Trafford.
The 22-year-old forward was charged with attempted rape, participating in controlling and coercive behavior, and assault resulting in actual bodily harm. He was initially suspended on full pay after his arrest in January 2022.
Before the charges were dismissed in February of this year, Greenwood refuted every accusation, which prompted United to initiate an internal review to determine his future.
The Athletic claims that Arnold told club employees he intended to reintegrate Greenwood into Erik ten Hag’s team, but he dramatically changed his mind in response to the overwhelming negative response the report received from supporters, commentators, and organizations that support victims of domestic abuse online.
Arnold clarified in his formal statement that the club took into consideration a number of different situations. However, he maintained that United was certain that Greenwood was not guilty of the accusations that were withdrawn.
According to Jackson of The Guardian, there does seem to be a chance for Greenwood to return at Old Trafford, despite the fact that it is improbable at this point given the hype that has already been generated.
Jamie Jackson of The Guardian informed Stretford Paddock that he had heard of an announcement on Greenwood’s anticipated comeback at the beginning of August while on United’s preseason tour in Las Vegas.
Additionally, he repeated rumors that the football department at United, led by director John Murtough and manager Erik ten Hag, wanted him back as soon as the charges were dropped.
Despite the money involved, his status as a native talent, and his exceptional potential, Greenwood’s return to United seems doubtful.
In his early Getafe career, the former Red Devils No. 11 hasn’t demonstrated anything to suggest he can rapidly regain his electrifying pre-suspension form.
But by next summer, things might have changed drastically, and United’s management will have to make a significant choice before his 2025 deal expires.
