The Lakers were still being judged even though they played a practice game with a weak team.
Before the Lakers played the Sacramento Kings at the Honda Center on Wednesday night, coach Darvin Ham said that the players on the court could learn more.
LeBron James, Anthony Davis, and Jarred Vanderbilt were all sitting next to each other in street clothes, and Austin Reaves and Cam Reddish were also not playing and sitting nearby. This was meant to help the other players keep building good habits.
Kim Ham said, “We’ll just keep building on our mentality and our mission. Our mission is to build winning habits, and our mentality is to compete, defend, and share.” “And that has to be the same approach no matter who steps on the field or who suits up.”
The plan was set in motion by players D’Angelo Russell, Gabe Vincent, Rui Hachimura, Taurean Prince, and Jaxson Hayes.
Along with Russell and Vincent in the backcourt, they set the right tone as the Lakers beat the Kings 109–101.
Russell continued to play very well in the practice season. He scored 21 points, made eight of twelve shots, and made two of five three-pointers. He also had eight assists in just 21 minutes.
Vincent scored 15 points and had three assists. He made six of eleven shots.
Prince played great defense and scored 13 points and grabbed seven rebounds, and Hachimura also scored 13 points and grabbed six rebounds.
