Giannis Antetokounmpo Takes a Trip to the Acropolis with His Sons

NBA player Giannis Antetokounmpo, a Greek-Nigerian, posed for a picture this weekend in the Acropolis of Athens, just days before his biography opens internationally.

The all-time leading scorer for the Milwaukee Bucks is currently on vacation in Greece following his team’s postseason season being ended in a game seven defeat to the Boston Celtics.

He wrote as the caption for this father-and-son Instagram picture, “Our annual Akropolis visit.” His youngest boy will turn one in August, and his eldest is already two years old.

The family’s Greek vacation will be spent at two Costa Navarino Residences that Giannis has bought in the Peloponnese.

In June, Giannis Antetokounmpo’s biopic will be released.

Later this month, on June 24, 2022, Rise, a biographical sports-drama film based by the ascent of the Antetokounmpo siblings, will premiere exclusively on Disney+.

The highly awaited biopic, which was directed by Akin Omotoso from a screenplay by Arash Amel, tells the story of the three brothers’ early years, their travels around Greece, and the development of their NBA careers.

Uche Agada, Ral Agada, and Jaden Osimuwa, three rookies, are featured prominently, with supporting roles from Elijah Shomanke, Yetide Badaki, and Dayo Okeniyi.

Executive producers were Douglas S. Jones and Giannis Antetokounmpo.

“The Antetokounmpos narrative is unlike anything audiences have ever seen.” “Charles and Vera Antetokounmpo struggled to survive and provide for their five children, all while facing deportation on a daily basis, after emigrating from Nigeria to Greece,” the movie’s summary reads.

The couple, whose eldest child was still living with relatives in Nigeria, was eager to obtain Greek citizenship but faced numerous obstacles, as stated in the story.

“The brothers Giannis and Thanasis discovered their amazing potential on the basketball floor as latecomers to the sport and pushed hard to become world class sportsmen, along with brother Kostas,” Disney+ states. “When they weren’t selling items to tourists on the streets of Athens with the rest of the family, they’d play basketball with a local youth team.”

With the assistance of an agent, Giannis eventually declared for the NBA Draft in 2013, completely changing not only his own life but also the lives of his entire family.

While Kostas was a member of the Los Angeles Lakers, the previous season’s winners, Giannis and Thanasis assisted the Milwaukee Bucks in winning their first championship in fifty years last season.

Greek Freak will play in the Eurobasket as a Greek representative.

In an interview with pubcaster ERT last week, Giannis Antetokounmpo’s manager, Nikos Zisis, stated that the national basketball team’s player will most likely represent Greece in the 2022 Eurobasket.

At the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup, the NBA MVP made his debut for the senior men’s Greek national basketball team. For EuroBasket 2015 and the 2016 FIBA World Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Turin, he rejoined the Greek national team.

After that, he participated in Greece’s EuroBasket 2017 training squad, but an injury kept him from playing. Recently, Ginis Antetokounmpo played for Greece in the FIBA Basketball World Cup.
