Today, the Boston Celtics said that they had signed guard Payton Pritchard to a new deal. As per team policy, the deal’s details were kept secret.
Brad Stevens, President of Basketball Operations for the Celtics, said, “In addition to his great skill, Payton brings toughness, resiliency, and diligence that raise the room.” “We’re happy that he chose to stay with the Celtics and pumped up for what’s to come.”
Pritchard has played in 185 games for the Celtics, starting nine of them. In those games, he has averaged 6.6 points, 2.1 rebounds, and 1.7 assists on the season. He has made an average of 43% from the field and 40% from three-point range over the course of his career. The player from West Linn, Oregon, has helped the Celtics make the playoffs all three years he has been there.
Pritchard scored a career-high 30 points (10-21 FG, 9-16 3FG), grabbed 14 rebounds, and gave out 11 assists against Atlanta on April 9 of last season. He became the ninth player in the team’s history to get a triple-double with at least 30 points. Only James Harden and Pritchard are the only two players in NBA history to make at least nine three-pointers and get a triple-double.
The Boston Celtics picked Pritchard with the 26th pick in the 2020 NBA Draft. He played college basketball for four years at the University of Oregon. The Bob Cousy Point Guard of the Year award was given to him. He was the first player in Oregon history and only the second player in Pac-12 history to honor.
