James has made his plan to own an NBA team in Las Vegas even stronger.
Since many years ago, there have been rumors that the league might grow to include Sin City.
James, who is 38 years old, first said that he wanted to bring an NBA team to Las Vegas in June 2022.
After more than a year, the All-Star for the Los Angeles Lakers only seems more motivated to make it happen.
The best scorer in NBA history led the Purple and Gold to a 129–126 preseason win over the Brooklyn Nets on Monday at T-Mobile Arena, which was decorated to look like Las Vegas.
The forward was asked after the game why he wants to run an NBA team in the “Entertainment Capital of the World.” He said, “It just makes sense.”
“Obviously you have the Raiders here, the Golden Knights here, and the Aces here,” James said next.
“F1 is coming up soon for you.” There have been a few All-Star Weekends.
“Most people know about the NBA Summer League.” There are sports here.
“I think adding an NBA franchise here would just add to the momentum that’s going on in this town.”
After a short pause, James said with a big smile, “I think it’s only a matter of time, and I hope I’m a part of that time.”
The four-time NBA MVP made sure his comments went as far as they did in 2022 the next day by making commissioner Adam Silver answer from Abu Dhabi.
James put a video of his reaction on X and wrote, “Viva Las Vegas!!!!”
He has already been an All-Star 19 times and is a part-owner of the Boston Red Sox, the sports teams Liverpool and AC Milan, and the NASCAR Cup Series team RFK Racing.
Before an NBA team comes to Las Vegas, the city is expected to get an MLB team.
It is said that the Oakland Athletics are working on a deal to move to Las Vegas.
Later this year, there will likely be a vote on where to move the A’s.
