Nike’s strategy of regularly releasing vintage iterations of their players’ footwear has been quite successful. Kevin Durant’s and his brand’s recent success comes as no surprise, given that he is Nike’s newest lifelong athlete. In early August, he will release one of the first styles from his 16-shoe trademark collection. Read up on all the latest sneaker launches and industry scoops in our news roundups.
Only three years into his NBA career, Kevin Durant unveiled the Nike Zoom KD 3 in 2010. The Nike Flywire technology and low profile made their debut on a pair of Durant’s sneakers for the first time. The “Easy Money” colorway is a nod to Durant’s “EasyMoneySniper” moniker and his hometown of Oklahoma City, where he grew up.
There are references to the monetary topic as well as personal data stuffed inside the shoes. Light Silver/Blue Jay/Steam/Mineral Spruce/Metallic Copper is the official color code. The uppers of the shoes are brushed in a light silver that has a greenish monetary sheen. The laces include reflective hits, and the colors continue to the tongue. Small orange accents on the Flywire nod to the Thunder and, more recently, the Phoenix Suns. Nike Zoom shoes have an outsole in the same cool green hue.
The shoes include four copper “coins” with the letters “K-D-3-5” engraved on them as a subtle feature. A “100” is printed across the blue Swoosh, just like the blue stripe on a $100 note. Kevin Durant’s copper autograph decorates the interior of the tongue check. Perhaps one of the most interesting features is the insoles, which are decorated with images of Durant’s face on $35 notes. Nike obviously put in a lot of effort into making these, and they’re a must-buy for any KD fan. For more in-depth images, visit SneakerFiles.
The sneakers will be available through the Nike SNKRS app and select Nike shops beginning on August 9, 2023. The MSRP is $130, but expect an increase in the secondary market. Do you like them? Would you buy a pair?
