BRISTOL, Mass. (AP) – Payton Pritchard scored 26 points in the Boston Celtics’ 114-106 preseason win over the Philadelphia 76ers, just hours after signing a four-year, $30 million deal extension.
In 23 minutes for the Celtics, Pritchard shot 9 for 14, including 6 for 11 on 3-pointers, and had four assists. With 4:28 remaining, Pritchard’s three-point play gave Boston a 102-101 lead, which they maintained.
Jaylen Brown scored 19 points on 7-for-10 shooting, accounting for all of the scorings in a 9-0 third-quarter run that gave Boston an 81-80 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
Kristaps Porzingis made all four of his first-half shots, including a 3-pointer, and all four of his free throws, leading Boston to a 59-57 halftime advantage. Jayson Tatum had 13 points and 10 rebounds, but he only shot 3 for 13 and was 0 for 4 on three-pointers.
Tyrese Maxey led the 76ers with 24 points and four assists. Tobias Harris added 13 points and seven rebounds, and Patrick Beverley scored 12 points on 5-of-7 shooting.
In the first quarter, Maxey scored 13 points to help Philadelphia establish a 29-20 lead.
BULLS 102, BUCKS 105
Marjon Beauchamp led host Milwaukee with 18 points and eight rebounds in the teams’ preseason opener.
The Bucks were without Giannis Antetokounmpo, but his older brother Thanasis Antetokounmpo had 14 points, five rebounds, and two blocks in 21 minutes.
Brook Lopez scored 11 points in 12 minutes for the Bucks, including three 3-pointers. Malik Beasley added three three-pointers to his 13 points and four assists. Chris Livingston, the final pick in this year’s second round, did not play. In 17 minutes, Andre Jackson Jr., a second-round pick obtained in a trade with the Orlando Magic, had four points, four rebounds, three assists, a steal, and a block.
Coby White led the Bulls with 14 points, six rebounds, and six assists while playing a team-high 23 minutes. Patrick Williams had 13 points and two blocks in 10 minutes, while Julian Phillips, a second-round pick obtained in a trade with Boston, had two points and two blocks. Chicago used all 20 players who were suited for the game.
Chicago led 82-78 entering the fourth quarter, but Ty Ty Washington hit a game-winning jumper with 8:41 remaining, starting an 8-0 run and Milwaukee leading the rest of the way.
PISTONS 126, SUNS 130
After blowing a 20-point lead in the fourth quarter, Keon Johnson and Yuta Watanabe opened overtime with back-to-back baskets, and visiting Phoenix triumphed.
Ausur Thompson, the fifth overall pick in this year’s draft, nailed a 3-pointer with 7.1 seconds remaining in regulation as the Pistons outscored the Suns 38-18 to force overtime with the score tied at 122.
Phoenix led 46-29 after Kevin Durant scored 10 of his 12 points in the first quarter. Durant had two three-point plays, a 3-pointer, and a technical free throw in the first quarter.
Grayson Allen led the Suns with 18 points, three 3-pointers, three assists, and two steals. Chimezie Metu led the team with 14 points, while Devin Booker added 12 in 15 minutes. Bradley Beal and Saben Lee each had 11 points, while Watanabe had 10 points and five rebounds.
Detroit was led by Marvin Bagley III, who scored 25 points on 10-for-14 shooting and grabbed seven rebounds. Thompson finished with 12 points, 10 rebounds, and 6 assists. Jaden Ivey scored 15 points on three 3-pointers. Cade Cunningham chipped in with 12 points and six assists.
