In the first quarter of Sunday’s preseason opener, the Suns showed that they have the potential to have one of the NBA’s all-time best offenses.

 

The Suns scored 46 points on the Pistons, who are coached by Monty Williams’ predecessor with the team, Bradley Beal, Kevin Durant, and Devin Booker. Durant scored 10 points on 3-of-3 shooting to lead Phoenix in scoring. The Suns made 17-of-20 from the field. Booker scored nine points on four of six shooting, while Beal added seven on two of three.

A glimpse of “what we can be offensively,” Suns coach Frank Vogel said after the game. Those players are really clicking and comfortable in the system that we have them in, so obviously it looks amazing on paper, the firepower that we have. While the offensive was impressive, I was even more pleased with how well we executed our defensive strategy. As a result of our defensive efforts, our offense found its stride. For the most part, we weren’t getting the ball out of their net or fouling. And when our offense is clicking as it did in the first quarter, nobody can stop us.

Both Durant and Booker scored 12 points in the Suns’ exhibition opener. Both Durant and Booker contributed three boards each. Beal scored 11 points in his Suns debut. He shot 3 for 5 from the field and 4 for 4 from the free throw line.

Beal started the scoring for the Suns with a pair of free throws and later added a jumper to his stat line. After a pull-up by Durant, Booker matched it, and the Suns went up 9-2.
