Luka Doncic led the way with 18 points, and Kyrie Irving sat out the second game against Minnesota.
ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates — LISTEN The Minnesota Timberwolves defeated the Dallas Mavericks 104-96 on Saturday to completing a two-game sweep of the NBA Abu Dhabi Games. Karl-Anthony Towns and Naz Reid both scored 14 points.
Anthony Edwards scored 13 points for Minnesota after missing the first game on Thursday due to an ankle injury.
Dallas was missing Kyrie Irving (left groin), Seth Curry (sickness), and Markieff Morris (left ankle). Luka Doncic had 18 points, six assists, and five rebounds in 19 minutes.
In a game where the majority of the starters did not play in the second half, Jaden Hardy led the Mavericks with 22 points and eight rebounds.
Dallas never led in the preseason opener on Thursday and only had the lead three times on Saturday – 3-0, 6-5, and 13-11. Those lead changes were all brief, lasting a total of 2:13 and occurring in the game’s first six minutes.
Aside from that, Minnesota led the whole game, riding a 27-7 run over a 10-minute stretch in the first half. Dallas pulled within two points in the fourth, with both teams depleted on their benches.
The Mavericks will now go to Spain to face Real Madrid, Doncic’s previous team, on Tuesday.
Doncic joined Real Madrid at the age of 13 and went on to win the club’s youngest EuroLeague and EuroLeague Final Four MVP as a 19-year-old in 2018.
Minnesota does not play next until October 14th, when they travel to New York.
