On Thursday, the Mavericks played host to the Timberwolves from Minnesota. After the game, Grant Williams talked about joining the team.

Grant Williams, one of the newest Dallas Mavericks, made his debut with the team on Thursday in their preseason opener. The Mavericks played an exhibition game against the Timberwolves in Abu Dhabi. Williams will start alongside physical players Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving. Williams has spent three months in Dallas and feels he has a good grasp on the team’s personality and values.

The forward from the Boston Celtics believes the Mavs’ unique blend of characters will serve them well in the playoffs. I always say it’s a very, very long year, so to bring smiles and bright energy assists not just yourself, but everyone else around you to get through it,” Williams remarked, as reported by Dwain Price of the Mavs. The strength of this group, in my opinion, lies in the fact that its members are “lots of characters that like to have a good time,” while also being “aware of the priorities that we have set before us.”

He went on, “The best thing about this organization is that everyone is themselves.” There is a sense of serenity and relaxation within the organization, yet everyone is disciplined and knows that winning is the top objective. The fact that, upon entering, you are immediately welcomed into what amounts to an extended family is something that has been crucial to my sense of satisfaction here.

Williams played 17 minutes in his preseason debut and contributed 6 points, 2 boards, and 1 block. The Mavs fell 99-111 despite launching a spirited rally late.
