Liverpool beat Union Saint-Gilloise 2-0, with Gravenberch shining as the Reds kept their perfect start

Five days after VAR let Liverpool down by making a big mistake against Tottenham, the Reds were the ones who benefited from a huge mistake. This caused a lot of talk and back and forth about replaying games and changing the way referees work.

Even though Diogo Jota’s late winner helped seal the deal, it was Union Saint-Gilloise goalie Anthony Moris’s terrible mistake that won the game for Liverpool in the end.

The Luxembourg player will leave Anfield knowing that he has cost his team a lot of money. The Belgian league leaders didn’t lose on any of their five European road trips last season.

Moris has made a lot of great saves, but this time he couldn’t handle a harmless shot right at his belly button.

It was Ryan Gravenberch’s first goal for Liverpool. He tapped in Trent Alexander-Arnold’s weak long-range shot after the goalie lost track of it. By a long shot, the Dutchman was the best player.

The Reds almost paid over £115 million for Moises Caicedo, so the £34 million they paid for Gravenberch on Deadline Day from Bayern Munich seems like a steal. How does he stand at Chelsea?

Jurgen Klopp said that it’s easy to see how good Ryan is.

He looks like he’s having fun here. Gradually, as their confidence grew. He fits in well with the rest of the team’s age group.

When asked if the talk about VAR was getting in the way of his team’s play, Klopp said, “We are over it.” We’re not kids or anything. When it came to attention, there was no problem.

He is the first Liverpool player since Milan Baros in September 2002 to do this in all three of his starts in all categories.

And with just three starts, Gravenberch has tied Jordan Henderson for the most goals scored this season.

Gravenberch, who was only 21, was very active all over the field. He made quick runs into the middle and played smart link-ups on the sides of the goal.

He helped the defense off the ball and almost scored another goal, but goalie Moris did some amazing things to stop him.

Given how much attention has been paid to offsides and video review this week, it was only fitting that Liverpool’s first goal was called back. At this point, there’s no doubt that Darwin Nunez was not onside when he scored with a close-range tap-in.

Soon after, Mo Salah set up the Uruguayan again, but this time he shot from six yards out and missed high and wide. Salah had a great chance to score after Jarell Quansah’s clearance-cum-pass put him through on goal, but Moris made a great save.

After Gravenberch scored at the end of the first half, Moris made a few more important stops. Diogo Jota, Nunez, and Curtis Jones all tried to score but were stopped by Union Saint-Gilloise’s strong defense.

Kevin Mac Allister played for the league-leading Union Saint-Gilloise in Belgium. He was the brother of Alexis Mac Allister (yes, he is called after the person), and the team had some rare periods of success thanks to investments from Brighton manager Tony Bloom.

After 26 minutes, Gustaf Nilsson had their best chance when he was open and got a set piece. He headed it high and wide from five yards out. Mohammed Amoura tried to get around Alisson on his way to the goal, but Ibrahima Konate stopped him.

Jarell Quansah, who is 20 years old, also did very well.

Klopp said, “It wasn’t hard for us to choose to play him.” Even though our team is strong, he will still play a lot of minutes. It is fun to watch him work. He is a great football player when he has the ball in his hands.

Carlos Mac Allister wished he could watch both of his sons play at the same time. When Alexis came on after halfway, he was able to do so. Before the game, the brothers shared a South American hot drink called mate.

The Liverpool midfielder, who has a picture of himself kissing the World Cup trophy from December of last year as the background on his phone, played with the ease that helped Argentina win. He sent in a great cross, but Diogo Jota’s shot was stopped by Moris.

Around the hour mark, Gravenberch found some room and tried to curl a shot into the top corner, but the goalkeeper had to stretch out even further to stop a second goal of the night.

Luis Diaz, a replacement for Liverpool, was set up for a goal but couldn’t score, missing a great chance to win the game for his team.

After all the fuss about his fake goal, the fact that the Colombian player looked a little offside was actually pretty funny. Jones and even Curtis Jones were so close.

But Liverpool didn’t seal the deal until the very last seconds of the second half. Union missed a great chance because they touched the ball too roughly a few times, and then Jota quickly got to the other end and quietly scored.
