During the Golden State Warriors’ commemorative visit to the White House on Tuesday, President Joe Biden and basketball player Stephen Curry projected a sense of purpose.

Both Biden and Curry took to their Instagram pages to commemorate the occasion, with the caption “Team Captains.”

Despite winning NBA championships in 2017, 2018, and again last year, Curry and his Golden State teammates have not visited the White House since their previous visits before former President Donald Trump’s presidency.

While it was never officially verified whether the Trump administration offered an invitation, Curry, 34, had expressed doubts about traveling at the time. His hesitation prompted the former president to rescind any future invitation.

Curry reflected on his boyhood ambitions of visiting the White House as “a kid growing up in Saginaw, Michigan,” saying, “I’ve been here twice now, and it’s still such an incredible feeling.”

In a video published by the White House, Klay Thompson expressed similar feelings, saying, “It’s absolutely incredible to be the 2022 NBA champs, and it’s even better to be celebrating at the White House with the Vice President and the President.”

He said, “This was a journey, and being here to celebrate feels like the icing on the cake.”
