Barcelona beat FC Porto 1-0 on the road after a long and tiring night in Portugal. Despite the early setback caused by Lewandowski’s injury, Ferran Torres emerged as the game-changer for the Catalan giants.
The win improves La Blaugrana’s record in the Champions League to 2-0. Catalan giants under Xavi Hernandez are feeling confident about their season after reaching the top of Group H with six points.
See how the Barcelona players did in the match versus Porto with these ratings.
Ter Stegen: 7.5
Excellent nighttime reliability and confidence in facing any challenge. Top-notch distribution allowed Barcelona to regularly create space thanks to the German international’s outstanding passes and vision.
7.0 Joao Cancelo
Some magnificent moments were almost ruined by an unnecessary handful late in the game. Apart from that, Cancelo appeared technically superior to everyone else and was crucial to Barcelona’s domination.
Ronald Araujo: 7.5
The Uruguayan was a great companion to Kounde and made sure Barcelona could rescue everything from any Porto onslaught. His return as a starter with Barcelona’s main defense will give fans optimism.
Jules Kounde: 8.5
His defense was outstanding. Some tackles may have saved the game. His passing and game-pause awareness were also useful.
Alejandro Balde: 7.0
Balde played well for Barcelona when they had possession, but he appeared tired and unable to steal the show with his scorching pace. Future rest may be needed.
6.5 Oriol Romeu
Romeu, unsure of himself, appeared to be the team’s weak link. Before being substituted by Sergi Roberto, he grew into the game and helped Barcelona dominate out from the back with his continuous transitions with Ilkay Gundogan.
Gavi: 6.5
Gavi ruined a near-brilliant game with unneeded fouls. Gavi’s passing, dribbling, and positional knowledge were good for Barcelona until his unnecessary red card.
8.5 Ilkay Gundogan
Offered his teammates a steady outlet while switching positions to keep Barcelona in control. He also gave Ferran Torres a well-weighted ball that helped Barca win all three points.
Lamine Yamal: 7.0
Lamine Yamal performed great despite being the youngest player on the field and the youngest Champions League starting ever. Even at his worst, he was a handful for Porto.
Robert Lewandowski: 6.0
Substituted in the first after a hard ankle blow. The Polish striker had little influence on the pitch, but the greater question is how long he will be out before he recovers from his injury.
Joao Felix 7.0
Joao Felix, one of the most energetic players on the pitch, reminded his old SL Benfica adversaries of his skills. Unable to score, but helped hold Porto back.
Substitutes
Ferran Torres: 8.0
This game saw the Spaniard shine. Ferran Torres entered the game after Lewandowski was substituted and had an immediate impact. The 23-year-old picked up a Gundogan ball before halftime and finished calmly to give Barcelona the win.
Fermin Lopez: 6.0
The youthful star occasionally contributed but had little influence. Looking back, he probably couldn’t have done much more given the game’s prominence and his introduction.
Sergio Roberto: 6.0
Roberto was a solid utility player but had little impact on the game. The Spanish midfielder helped out whenever needed.
Marcos Alonso: None
Too little time or effect on the game to rate.
