Curtis Jones’s appeal against his red card against Tottenham was turned down, which made it hard for Jurgen Klopp to choose his team.

Jones was shown a red card in Liverpool’s 2-1 Premier League loss on Saturday. The Liverpool midfielder’s yellow card for a hit on Yves Bissouma was changed to a red card after VAR stepped in in the 26th minute.

Liverpool tried to appeal the decision, but on Tuesday they found out that their case had been turned down. Jones has been banned from the Premier League for three games because of this. He can’t go to Brighton to play on Sunday, but he could play on Thursday in the Europa League against Union Saint-Gilloise.

Because he was also sent off against Spurs, Diogo Jota is also not allowed to play against Brighton. In the second half in north London, Jota got two yellow cards in a row, leaving Liverpool with nine men.

Now he has to serve a one-game ban. That means he can play in the Merseyside Derby on October 21. Jones will miss that game and the Premier League game on October 29 against Nottingham Forest. He will be able to play again on November 5 against Luton.

The two bans are big blows to Klopp, who already has to deal with injuries. Cody Gakpo got hurt in Stoppage Time of the First Half at Spurs and was taken off at halftime. Later, he was seen walking funny and wearing a brace. Klopp was very upset to lose him.

He said, “To be honest, the biggest problem of the game was that before Cody Gakpo scored, we got a free kick and he got hurt. He’s now walking down the hallway in a brace.” To be honest, that’s my biggest problem right now. We lost two players to red cards and maybe a third. It was awful. That is, of course, something we need to deal with.

When asked if it was a bad injury, he said, “Maybe, I don’t know.” He had a brace on. He scored a goal after that shot, but it hurt even more after that. It came from the foul before.

Stefan Bajcetic and Thiago Alcantara are also out for Liverpool because they are hurt. Bajcetic came back from a long-term injury, but he has a small calf problem that Liverpool is trying to keep from getting worse.
