It’s hard to find a more genuine athlete than Kevin Durant at a time when kids start establishing their brands in middle school. The forward for the Phoenix Suns is as deadly with a late-game pull-up jumper as he is on social media.
One of the most well-known characters in basketball footwear, Durant is as cool off the field as he is on it. In January of this year, Durant committed to a lifetime supply of Nike sneakers. Don’t assume Durant will become a corporate guy simply because he is now inextricably linked to the Swoosh.
On Monday, the Suns held their annual Media Day, when the spotlight was squarely on Durant’s size 18 feet. The Nike KD 16 in the ‘Ember Glow’ colorway was unveiled by the NBA star. Durant was questioned by a reporter about his newest sneaks, and he provided a neutral review of his 16th trademark shoe.
Durant was quoted as saying, “It’s just another pair of kicks, man.” in an Instagram video shared by @NBAKicks. Since this is already the 16th episode, there’s really no need to celebrate. That’s just how KD’s is, unfortunately. Each and every year, I can count on them keeping me on my toes.
Oh, well, I guess you could call it a recommendation. As a sneaker journalist, it’s frustrating when a celebrity athlete downplays the significance of their endorsement deal with a certain footwear brand. In particular, given that Durant is a true sneakerhead who enjoys exploring a wide variety of footwear.
