2024 Olympic Ambitions: LeBron James, Steph Curry, and Kevin Durant Among NBA Stars Eager to Shine

A couple of NBA all-stars have already voiced their desire to play in the 2024 Summer Olympics, which will be held in Paris.

After a September story said he was trying to get a few more American players to play for Team USA, LeBron James publicly stated his desire to do so. Since then, during the league’s continuing media days, a few players from James’ alleged list or recruits have revealed their desire to suit up for the Paris Games.

Many NBA All-Stars, including Bam Adebayo, DeMar DeRozan, Devin Booker, Bradley Beal, Donovan Mitchell, Khris Middleton, Julius Randle, Zach LaVine, Aaron Gordon, Fred VanVleet, and Brook Lopez, expressed interest in playing for Team USA on Monday. Suddenly, it looks like the United States has a roster full of A-listers that can fill all 12 available slots.

LBJ’s King James, of the Lakers

The Lakers star has expressed an interest in joining Team USA in the 2016 Olympics, citing the fact that he would not be expected to play a pivotal role for the squad as he did in his previous two Olympic appearances.

“I don’t think it would be too much of a physical toll,” James, who will turn 39 in December, said. It wouldn’t be too taxing on my time. Tend to recover somewhat. Put it off for a while. Defend. Block some shots.”

After the United States finished in fourth place in the FIBA World Cup in September, James allegedly began recruiting players to join him for a possible last journey with Team USA in 2024.

The way we ended the summer was disappointing, James stated. So, “We’ll see.”

James has participated in three Summer Olympics, all of which have resulted in medals for Team USA (a bronze in 2004 and two golds in 2008 and 2012). After winning an Olympic gold medal, he retired from international competition.

While James is certain to participate in the 2024 Olympics, his teammate Anthony Davis is less certain. Davis has stated that he has “no idea yet” if he would compete in the tournament. Even though James allegedly reached out to Davis this summer, Davis hasn’t played internationally since he won a gold medal with Team USA at the 2012 Olympics.

Golden State Warriors’ Steph Curry

Curry has shown an interest in representing his Warriors coach at the 2020 Olympics.

On October 2nd, Curry stated, “I want to be playing.” I haven’t done anything else, so far. I also see this as a chance for Team USA to show the world once again why they are the best [basketball] nation in the world.

“I hope very much to be present. I’d love to be a part of the group. It would be great if everything fell into place so that we could all be together.

While Curry has yet to compete in the Olympics, he has twice won gold with Team USA at the FIBA World Cup (in 2010 and 2014).

Kevin Durant of the Suns of Phoenix

The Suns’ best player has declared his intention to join Team USA for the next summer Olympics.

At the Oct. 2 media day for the Phoenix Suns, Durant announced his intention to participate in the 2020 Olympics.

Durant, who just turned 35, has won a gold medal with Team USA in each of the last three Olympic tournaments. During the 2021 Olympic Games in Tokyo, he scored the most points by a male athlete from the United States.
