Barcelona loanee Julian Araujo was taken out with an injury during today’s La Liga match between UD Las Palmas and Celta Vigo on Gran Canaria.
Araujo left Barça for Las Palmas on a season-long loan this summer so that he might get more playing time.
After joining the Blaugrana in January of this year, the 22-year-old had to sit out the second half of the previous season because FIFA had not yet approved his move.
It was determined in the summer that Araujo would be loaned to Las Palmas because he was never going to see significant playing time for Barcelona.
The Mexican right defender has been playing significant minutes since joining the freshly promoted La Liga team.
Indeed, in Las Palmas’ eighth game of the season, Araujo made his sixth start. Tonight’s game versus Celta Vigo was their seventh.
Unfortunately, the Barcelona loanee’s night ended on a sour note as he had to be replaced at the half due to what seemed to be an injury.
A more definitive update on the status of the Mexican international, who was replaced by Alvaro Lemos, is expected in the following days.
Both Las Palmas and Barcelona will be praying that Araujo’s injury is minor, since he needs to keep playing frequently to develop as a player in Europe.
