On Monday, at media days held around the NBA, Kevin Durant said, along with many other elite players, including Steph Curry, the all-time 3-point champion, that he intends to participate for his country at next summer’s Paris Olympics.
FRANCISCO, CA — Stephen Curry has won almost every major basketball award there is, yet he has yet to be inducted into the Hall of Fame.
Curry is eager to rectify that, as he has never competed in the Olympics.
Curry announced his intention to play for Team USA at the 2024 Olympics on Monday during Warriors media day. The games will be held in Paris.
Curry has expressed his desire to continue playing in the event of a status quo scenario. I hope everything works out because I really want to be there and be a part of the team.
Curry’s statements follow those of Kevin Durant, who already announced his commitment to compete for Team USA in the 2017 Summer Olympics. LeBron James also seems to be on board, and he allegedly led an effort to get Curry and other NBA All-Stars to join him.
As a member of Team USA, Curry has won gold in the FIBA World Cup in 2010 and 2014. However, he has yet to compete in the Olympics. Multiple chances have presented themselves, but fate has thus far conspired against the four-time NBA champion.
Curry was almost selected for the 2016 Olympic team in Rio, but he had to pull out due to knee and ankle injuries. Four years later, Curry decided to rest and recover from his injuries rather than compete in the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.
But at age 35, Curry’s playing days are numbered. Even if he manages to keep defying old age for a while more, this may be his last shot at reaching the Olympic team.
Next summer, Team USA will travel to Paris with Steve Kerr at the helm as head coach. By guiding a young team to a fourth-place result at the World Cup this summer, he helped get the United States into the Olympics in Paris.
