Klopp’s team appeared to be holding on for a point after going down to nine men in the second half when replacement Diogo Jota was sent a second yellow card, but Spurs ultimately prevailed thanks to an own goal scored by Joel Matip in stoppage time.
Romero praised the Spurs’ “great spirit, great heart” in an Instagram post after the game. consistent with this, united as @spursofficial’
His Argentine teammate Mac Allister, though, made it plain that Spurs benefited from sloppy refereeing in their triumph by responding, “Normal when you have 12 players.”
Romero retaliated by saying, “Cry at home.”
The PGMOL has subsequently suspended both VAR officials, Darren England and Dan Cook, for their roles in Liverpool’s loss to Spurs.
Both England and Dan Cook have been removed from their positions as fourth officials for this weekend’s matches: Sunday’s Nottingham Forest vs. Brentford and Monday’s Fulham vs. Chelsea.
After Liverpool’s 2-1 loss to Tottenham, the PGMOL issued a statement admitting the first blunder: “PGMOL acknowledge a significant human error occurred during the first half of Tottenham Hotspur vs Liverpool.”
The goal scored by Luis Diaz was ruled out by the match referees because he was offside. The goal should have been granted due to the VAR’s intervention because of the evident factual error, however the VAR did not step in.
“PGMOL will conduct a thorough investigation of the events that led to the mistake.
At the end of the match, PGMOL will call Liverpool to apologize for the mix-up.
