At Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, the home team won late thanks to an own goal from Joel Matip in extra time. Curtis Jones and Diogo Jota were both sent off in the process.
After Son Heung-min scored for the Blues in the 36th minute, the Reds’ Cody Gakpo scored in stoppage time to tie the game at the half.

Part One
Liverpool had the early initiative in the capital, with Luis Diaz having an attempt stopped behind and Alexis Mac Allister narrowly missing the target with a shot in the opening five minutes.
Spurs countered with pressure of their own at the other end, but it was the Reds who created the game’s first quality scoring chance 13 minutes in.
Liverpool advanced down the left flank after receiving a diagonal ball from Dominik Szoboszlai; after good work by Diaz and Andy Robertson, Gakpo had space to turn and shoot from just inside the penalty area.
Guglielmo Vicario made a great stop on the No. 18’s original shot, and he swiftly recovered to deny Robertson’s powerful rebound attempt.
As the sides continued to trade blows, Liverpool was eventually reduced to 10 men just before the half.
After a video review, referee Simon Hooper decided to give Jones a red card for his challenge on Yves Bissouma.
A little time later, with the team down a man, Diaz put the ball in the back of the net by finishing off a Mohamed Salah feed on the break.
However, the winger’s celebrations were cut short by the offside flag, and Son scored the game-winning goal for the home team from close range just one minute later.
Richarlison hit the post as Liverpool kept fighting, but the visitors scored again right before halftime.
In the fourth minute of stoppage time, Gakpo tied the game when he received the ball inside the area after Virgil van Dijk’s knockdown found the forward. He then turned and shot past Vicario.
Period Two
Liverpool made a substitution at halftime, with Jota coming in for Gakpo after the latter needed medical attention following his goal.
Spurs came out strong to start the second half, resulting in two fantastic stops from Alisson Becker: the first, on a curling shot from James Maddison; the second, on a volley from Son.
On the hour mark, the latter once again put the ball into the far corner of the net, but was again denied by a raised offside flag.
Jota was sent off twice in a row in the last twenty minutes, leaving Liverpool with nine players.
While Jürgen Klopp’s side played on the counter after bringing on Trent Alexander-Arnold, Ibrahima Konate, Wataru Endo, and Ryan Gravenberch off the bench, Tottenham pressed the Reds with the additional manpower, possessing much of the ball.
In the sixth minute of stoppage time, though, Liverpool were humiliated when Matip deflected a low cross into his own net.
