Mohamed Salah Sets New Premier League Record in Liverpool’s Triumphant Victory

During Sunday’s 3-1 win against West Ham United for Liverpool in the Premier League, forward Mohamed Salah set yet another record.

With the victory over the Hammers, Jurgen Klopp’s squad now has a six-game unbeaten streak across all competitions. The Egyptian scored the game’s first goal to give the home team a 1-0 lead.

In the opening 20 minutes of the match, Salah scored after controlling a Luis Diaz cross in the area and racing in on goal.

After Nayef Aguerd of West Ham took down the Liverpool winger, Klopp’s team had a penalty kick opportunity from 12 yards out.

After 16 minutes, Salah gave Liverpool the lead when he converted a penalty kick by sending Alphonse Areola of the Hammers the wrong way.

The former Chelsea winger caused a stir in the net by being the only player in Premier League history to score or assist in 12 straight games on two separate occasions.

Salah did it for the first time between August and December 2021, and Liverpool FC ended up second in the 2021-22 season, one point behind winners Manchester City.

This current streak of goalscoring success by the Egyptian began with a penalty in the 4-3 victory against Tottenham Hotspur on April 30 and spans 12 different seasons.

From the beginning of the 2023-24 season till now, Liverpool has played 12 games and lost none, winning nine and drawing three.

Already, Salah has broken several Premier League records, including Didier Drogba’s mark of 104 goals for the most goals scored by an African player in Premier League history.

After Salah scored from the penalty spot against West Ham, Jarrod Bowen tied the game late in the first half for the visitors, but goals from Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota ensured the victory for Klopp’s squad.

Since beginning the season with a 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge against Chelsea, Liverpool has won six straight games, including Thursday’s 3-1 victory against the Austrian club LASK in their Europa League debut.

With 16 points after six games, the Reds are in second place in the Premier League, two points behind Man City, who have yet to lose a game and have a perfect 6-0 record.

On Saturday, Salah and the Liverpool squad will play Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham Hotspur in North London, where Salah will try to extend his current scoring streak in the league to 13 games.
