An injury that was first deemed “nothing major” in August will force Calvin Ramsay to miss “another couple of months” of action for Preston.
Since Ramsay’s first start for Liverpool in the League Cup victory against Derby, he has not participated in a senior level competitive game.
That happened in November, and in February he needed surgery on a significant knee injury, so his first season at Anfield was cut short.
Ramsay was loaned out for the 2023–24 season after arriving from Aberdeen with undetected back ailments that limited his playing time with both the main team and the U21s.
Preston manager Ryan Lowe said last month that the right back may miss the first “six to eight weeks” of the season due to an injury he sustained before the season began.
Although Lowe first said it was “nothing major,” he has now confirmed that Ramsay would be out for a longer period of time.
On Thursday, Lowe told reporters, “He’s still out and probably will be for another couple of months.”
He has returned to Liverpool to continue his rehabilitation. He’ll be back with us as soon as he’s well enough.
It’s another setback for Ramsay, who, given his earlier prognosis, could have hoped to be back in training within the next two weeks.
It now seems unlikely that the 20-year-old will play for Preston again until at least November, making it exactly one year since his last senior game.
It is not unusual for loanees with long-term injuries to return to the AXA Training Centre on Merseyside to continue their rehabilitation work, as was the case with him.
For Preston in the Championship, right wing-back Brad Potts has been a rock in place of the injured Ramsay.
North End, who have a close association with Liverpool, are currently riding a four-game victory run and are undefeated in their first five games of the season.
