After assisting three goals in a historic victory for Portugal, BRUNO FERNANDES was hailed as the “best in the world” by Manchester United supporters.
The 29-year-old player contributed a goal to his nation’s 9-0 victory over Luxembourg in a Monday Euro 2024 qualifying match.
At the Estadio Algarve, Fernandes opened the scoring in the 12th minute when he crossed the ball with the outside of his foot onto Goncalo Inacio’s head.
He then threw the ball to Inacio once more right before the halftime break.
He handed Liverpool’s Diogo Jota a 5-0 lead in the second half by playing a superb through pass for him to run on to and score. His third aide was this one.
Then Fernandes buried a shot from close range for the eighth goal of the nine-goal rout.
He continued his incredible form on the international stage even though he and United had a difficult start to the Premier League season.
With three goals and four assists in six games, Fernandes has been directly involved in more Euro qualification goals than any other player to date.
Social media users posted clips of his most recent outstanding performance for Portugal, and United supporters were eager to praise their hero on Twitter.
Best in the world, one person exclaimed, while another replied, “I’m in charge.”A second United supporter referred to him as “Magnifico,” and a third labeled him a “creative machine.”
It was also Portugal’s largest victory ever, surpassing their 8-0 victories over Liechtenstein and Kuwait.
If they defeat Slovakia at home on October 13 and Luxembourg loses to Iceland, they will qualify for the Euros in Germany with three games remaining.
