On Sunday evening, the Dutch fought back from a goal down to defeat the Republic of Ireland 2-1, with a goal from Cody Gakpo.

Oranje overcame an early deficit to tie the game and advance from Group B of the Euro 2024 qualifying tournament thanks to a penalty kick scored by the Liverpool striker who also scored in his country’s 3-0 victory against Greece on Thursday.

With nine minutes left in the game in Dublin, Gakpo was taken off, while the Dutch captain, Virgil van Dijk, played the whole 90 minutes. Their teammate Caoimhin Kelleher was an Irish bench warmer.

Dominik Szoboszlai, captain of Hungary, began and completed his team’s 1-1 friendly match with the Czech Republic on Sunday.
