Patrick Mahomes still ‘trusts’ The Chiefs Wide Receiver after huge problem in Detroit Lions loss

Kadarius Toney made many important mistakes in the Kansas City Chiefs’ loss to the Detroit Lions, but quarterback Patrick Mahomes still “trusts” the wide receiver.

The Lions marched into Arrowhead and defeated the current Super Bowl champions 21-20, giving them a poor start in their quest for a second consecutive Vince Lombari trophy.

Key to their win was a pick-six for Brian Branch, who became the first Lions rookie to score a pick-six on his NFL debut since Lem Barney back in 1967.

The touchdown was gifted to Branch and the Lions after Toney deflected a pass attempt in the direction of the rookie cornerback.

To make matters worse for Toney, on the Chiefs’ final drive down one point, he dropped another easy catch for what would have been a big gain that moved Kansas City into field goal range.

That drop prompted boos from sections of the home crowd, but superstar quarterback Mahomes said after the match that he still has faith in the former New York Giants receiver.

“I have trust in KT [Kadarius Toney], stuff’s not always going to go your way,” Mahomes said.

“He missed a lot of training camp, and obviously he wanted to play and fought [during] rehab hard so he could play.

“Obviously he would’ve wanted to catch a few of those in the game, but I’ve trusted he’s going to be that guy that I go to in those crucial moments, and he’s going to make the catch and win us some games like he did last year.

“So we’re going to continue to work him in, get him more and more reps, and I’m sure that those drops will kind of disappear.”
