Xavi Simons, now on loan at Paris Saint-Germain, is among the candidates for the 2023 Kopa Trophy. For the 2023 Ballon d’Or, Kylian Mbappé is one of the nominees. This means that PSG may soon get new hardware. 

This is a huge honor for Simons, since France Football gives the Kopa Trophy to the best performing player under the age of 21 every year. 

Who else, besides Simons, will take home the prize? The 20-year-old competes for the prize among other notable names such as Jude Bellingham, Eduardo Camavinga, Pedri, Gavi, Rasmus Hjlund, Alejandro Balde, Antonio Silva, Jamal Musiala, and Elye Wahi.

The midfielder had a career-high 22 goals and 12 assists in 48 appearances for PSV Eindhoven last year. Simons has scored twice and assisted on three goals in four appearances for RB Leipzig during his loan. 

Meanwhile, Mbappé is a potential Ballon d’Or winner, albeit it seems unlikely that the Frenchman would take home the trophy.

Lionel Messi, winner of the 2022 FIFA World Cup, or Erling Haaland, who contributed to Manchester City’s 2023 UEFA Champions League victory, will most likely be awarded the trophy.
