Despite acknowledging Wednesday’s allegations against the Brazil attacker, Manchester United won’t say whether or not Antony is still available for selection.
Prior to Brazil’s CONMEBOL World Cup qualifying matches against Bolivia and Peru, Antony was cut from the team on Monday. This came after new allegations of domestic abuse against the footballer were made by his ex-girlfriend Gabriela Cavallin, who has waived her right to anonymity in the UK.
When asked by ESPN about whether Antony is available to play for the club, United issued a statement on Wednesday confirming the claims but declining to go further. Antony, 23, claims he did nothing wrong.
“Manchester United acknowledges the allegations made against Antony and notes that the police are conducting enquiries,” said the statement sent by United on Wednesday.
“The club will not be making any other remarks pending further information.
As a club, we are treating this situation seriously, taking into account the effects that these accusations and any further reports will have on abuse victims.

Before new claims were made against Antony on Monday, DJ and influencer Cavallin made initial accusations against him in June.
It prompted the Brazil Football Confederation (CBF) to declare that the forward had been relieved from international duty for matches during the international break in a statement that was released later on Monday.
The CBF said in a statement that the athlete had been removed from the Brazilian team “due to the facts that became public this Monday involving Manchester United player Antony, and which need to be investigated, and in order to safeguard the alleged victim, the player, the Brazilian team, and the CBF.”
Following Cavallin’s report to police regarding alleged incidents in Manchester, the claims are being investigated in Brazil, and a complaint has also been lodged to police in the UK.
Greater Manchester Police released a statement on Monday that said: “Greater Manchester Police is aware of the allegations made and enquiries remain ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding this report.”
Antony responded by insisting in a social media post on Monday that the claims “are false.”
It said: “I feel forced to speak publicly about the false charges I’ve been subjected to out of respect for my fans, friends, and family. I have treated this situation carefully and with respect from the outset, giving the appropriate justifications to the police authority.
“Since the police inquiry is being conducted in the name of justice, I am unable to make its findings public. However, I can say with certainty that the accusations are untrue and that I am innocent of the charges because of the evidence that has already been revealed and that will continue to be produced.
