Klopp enjoys ‘sweet fruit’ after Liverpool’s miscalculation with Darwin Nunez

Liverpool intended to get rid of their blockbuster this summer, but luckily that did not happen

Liverpool went through an exciting summer transfer period when they recruited a series of names such as Dominik Szoboszlai, Alexis Mac Allister or Ryan Gravenberch. At the same time, the Merseyside team also said goodbye to stars who were no longer part of the plan.

However, in that liquidation list, Mundo Deportivo revealed that coach Jurgen Klopp planned to say goodbye to striker Darwin Nunez – the star who cost them 80 million euros to recruit in the transfer window last summer.

Specifically, they want to arrange a transfer with Atletico Madrid, in which Nunez will move to Wanda Metropolitano while Felix joins Liverpool in the opposite direction.

However, the negotiations did not go as expected because Felix only wanted to join Barcelona. Therefore, Liverpool agreed to keep Nunez here.

This seems to be a rather reluctant decision from The Kop, but they have achieved desirable results at the beginning of the season.

.

It should be emphasized that the Uruguayan player is only the 5th choice on the attack of The Kop, when Mohamed Salah and Luis Diaz are almost certain to be guaranteed the main kick. The duo Diogo Jota and Cody Gakpo also regularly appear.

In fact, the quartet that Jurgen Klopp owns has shown efficiency as well as chemistry. As for Nunez, after a season at Anfield, he seems to be starting from scratch.

However, the 24-year-old striker did not flinch. He sought to use every opportunity as a reminder to Liverpool of why they paid so much for Benfica to complete the deal.

In the clash with Newcastle, The Kop’s chances of scoring seemed to be gone in the context that they were leading and had to play short of people early after Virgil van Dijk’s red card.

When Nunez warmed up outside the touchline, even the most optimistic fan could hardly think of the prospect that the former Benfica star would shine to help the visitors turn the game around.

However, Nunez did the unthinkable. He punished the mistake of the Newcastle defense with a quick observation before launching a dangerous shot to equalize the score. And when the match drifted to the last seconds, Nunez once again showed his killer instinct with a goal to help The Kop complete the comeback.

What Nunez showed made fans somewhat recall the image of a striker who scored 34 goals after 41 appearances in all competitions in the 2021/22 season.

It was that performance that helped Nunez regain trust in Jurgen Klopp. And then in the next clash, when given the starting role, the Uruguayan player continued to leave his mark. Nunez influenced Matty Cash to score an own goal before assisting Salah to seal the final 3-0 victory for Liverpool in the match against Aston Villa.

Obviously, keeping Nunez here is something that The Kop does not want, but in the past two rounds, they have enjoyed the fruits of their own miscalculation.
