BBC pundit claims Declan Rice is ‘Xhaka calm version’ of Arsenal

On the BBC, Garth Crooks praised Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice for his performance against Manchester United.

Arsenal had a 3-1 victory over Manchester United at home after being behind. Declan Rice, who joined Arsenal from West Ham United in the summer transfer window, scored the hosts’ second goal in the sixth minute of stoppage time after an excellent 90 minutes.

Former Tottenham Hotspur striker Garth Crooks was extremely impressed with Rice and included him in the BBC Premier League Team of the Week.

Crooks wrote about Rice on BBC Sport: “Rice has been outstanding for the Gunners since his arrival and provides everything Granit Xhaka could do, without the Swiss international’s recklessness or combustible nature. His goal against Manchester United in the final seconds of the match doesn’t just win you games, they are the goals that, in the final analysis, win you titles.”

On Odegaard, Crooks added:” His equaliser 35 seconds after Manchester United had taken the lead was a lifesaver for Arsenal. The longer the game continued without that reply, the more desperate they would have become. Odegaard’s finish was first class. The ball came from a difficult angle so his technique had to be spot-on – and it was. He struck the ball so sweetly it flew past Andre Onana in the Manchester United goal.”

After Pepe, more people are about to leave Arsenal

According to Football.London, Cedric Soares can still leave Arsenal with Nicolas Pepe this month, even though the transfer market in England is closed.

Cedric Soares was expected to leave Arsenal in the 2023 summer transfer window, but the deal did not come to fruition before the English transfer window closed on September 1. Regardless, the Gunners could still sell Soares to other clubs after this point.

Football.London reports that Cedric has received interest from FC Porto, Benfica and Sporting CP in Portugal, where the transfer market is only closed until September 22. The same source says Nicolas Pepe is also is attracting interest from many clubs and is about to move to Besiktas.

Cedric spent last season on loan with Fulham. He clearly has no ability to compete for a starting position at Arsenal at this time. Ben White is Arsenal’s number one right-back, with Takehiro Tomiyasu in reserve. Thomas Partey has also played in this position recently and Mikel Arteta also welcomed new signing Jurrien Timber in the summer. Not to mention Reuell Walters, a young talent who is impressing with the U21 team and is regularly called up to the Arsenal first team.

If Cedric wants to play regularly this season, his best option is probably to return to Portugal.
