Jurgen Klopp Applauds Liverpool’s ‘Machine-Like’ Performance in Thrashing Aston Villa at Anfield

Dominik Szoboszlai scored his first goal for Liverpool in their 3-0 win against Aston Villa, and manager Jurgen Klopp was impressed by his performance.

Szoboszlai, who was acquired from RB Leipzig in a £60 million move earlier in the window, opened the scoring as Liverpool easily dispatched Villa under Unai Emery at Anfield. The Hungarian’s first-time strike from the outside of the area beat Emiliano Martinez with ease.

When Darwin Nunez’s shot hit the post, it cannoned off the unlucky Matty Cash and into the back of the goal to give Liverpool a commanding 2-0 lead. With his first goal of the season in the second half, Mohamed Salah padded the Reds’ lead.

Even yet, Klopp wasted no time singling out Szoboszlai after the game. “He’s a machine, eh?” he said. It’s astonishing that they’ve won four games already; they’re clever and strategic; they’re not afraid of getting their hands dirty; and they focus on winning the fundamentals rather than the fluff.

It was crucial the way Curt Jones and Dom filled up the gaps. Wow, I was in the back and witnessed the goal; that was the cleanest striker I’ve seen in a long time.

Klopp added, “It was a terrific game, best for a long time, we had a few excellent games obviously, It was very nice, we were right in both sectors offensively and defensively.

You can’t afford to take any shortcuts against Aston Villa. Even without the early goal, we were impressive; our balance of control and direction in possession was almost ideal.

Because the opposition was so formidable, “that is how it felt,” as the saying goes. “We used the formation properly; everybody wanted the ball; it was as good as could be.”

Joe Gomez and Joel Matip both made their way back into Klopp’s starting lineup for Liverpool’s match against Villa, and the manager had nothing but praise for the two players. He said, “Both central defenders played a phenomenal game.” In all candor, with various occupations. Diaby playing deep in the middle of the field in the 9–10 position. Joey had to intervene because of this.

This puts Joel head-to-head against Ollie Watkins. Though I like Joel, I believe we can all agree that Ollie Watkins is, if anything, even faster, and he did a fantastic job of keeping up with Joel. The lads in front of them were aware of this, putting them squarely in the action during crucial counterpressing phases.

You could see the front line settle a little higher when we went up 2-0, but it was due of the energy with which we played and other such factors. That’s understandable, but it didn’t assist us much in those crucial times when our grasp wasn’t identical. However, you’ve done a fantastic job.

And Joey, I’m really happy for him. By the way, when he came in against Newcastle, it had already gotten to that point. The resemblance was spot on. It helps a lot to have strong central defenders, but if you just leave them to it, the field will be too large to cover. We played the way we did because we were so tight and united as a unit today. The level of dedication was excellent.
