Cancelo and Balde in Starting XI as Barcelona Adopts 4-3-3 Formation: Possible Lineup Against Osasuna

After an exciting last day of the summer transfer market on Friday, FC Barcelona are back to preparing for Sunday’s La Liga match against CA Osasuna.

The defending Spanish champions have not gotten off to a great start to the new season, but they have managed to win two of their three games and draw one.

The journey to El Sadar on Sunday night won’t be easy, but with Joao Cancelo and Joao Felix joining the team on transfer deadline day, Xavi Hernandez should feel encouraged.

Although Pedri and Ronald Araujo are still out, the matchday roster has expanded to include newly enrolled La Liga players Inigo Martinez and Inaki Pena.

Here’s how Xavi may line up Barcelona against Osasuna at El Sadar in what could be a difficult matchup.

Starters

Day of Signing Deadline On Sunday, Joao Cancelo will make his Barça debut and is expected to start at right back, a position that has proved troublesome for the Catalan club.

The other wing should see a switch as well, with Alejandro Balde replacing Marcos Alonso on the left side after getting some rest and a new jersey number.

Jules Kounde, who Xavi praised highly earlier today, should keep his spot alongside Andreas Christensen in the center of the Barça defense. Together, they’ll protect Blaugrana goalkeeper and team leader Marc-Andre ter Stegen.

Since joining Barcelona this summer, Oriol Romeu has been an integral part of the team’s midfield. The Spaniard will likely start at center for the visitors again tomorrow at El Sadar.

Ilkay Gundogan, a recent acquisition, and Frenkie de Jong, who has been red-hot of late, should both maintain their starting positions in the center of the field.

Xavi has some tough choices in the attacking third now that Ferran Torres has been performing well off the bench and Raphinha has returned from his two-game ban. Even Joao Felix, the newest addition, may be used.

After scoring his first goal of the season against Villarreal, the manager is expected to keep Robert Lewandowski in the starting lineup at center forward. Lamine Yamal, a teen phenomenon, should also continue to start on the right side.

Gavi, meanwhile, could start on the left as the false winger and become the youngest player in Barcelona ever to participate in 100 games.

Barcelona Ter Stegen, Cancelo, Kounde, Christensen, Balde, de Jong, Romeu, Gundogan, Yamal, Lewandowski, and Gavi are the expected starters.

Substitutes

in Sunday, Joao Felix will likely make his Barcelona debut after being brought in as a replacement. The same may be said of Inigo Martinez, another recent addition.

In addition to Raphinha’s expected return to action after suspension, minutes for the rising star Ferran Torres off the bench are guaranteed for Xavi once again.
