Loic Tanzi claims that Liverpool are on the verge of signing Ryan Gravenberch. The 21-year-old midfielder has been speculated to join the Merseyside club on the last day of the transfer window after being linked with a move away from Bayern Munich all season.
Gravenberch is a product of Ajax’s illustrious youth program. Back in the summer of 2019, he made it into their first team and continued to improve over the following seasons.
He was recruited by Bayer Munich last summer after a string of stellar performances for the Dutch powerhouses. The 21-year-old had a role in 33 games during the 2022-23 season. The Dutch youth international did see action in quite a few games, although he was mostly deployed as a substitute and played for fewer than 1,000 total minutes.
His dissatisfaction with his playing time has led him to contemplate his future for some time. However, Bayern has not yet given Gravenberch any guarantees about his playing time. Many European clubs have been keeping tabs on him as a consequence.
The 21-year-old seems to be quite low on the totem pole at the club, as he has only played for nine minutes so far this season. With that in mind, the former Ajax midfielder might be on his way to Liverpool before the transfer window closes. Reportedly, Bayern Munich is seeking around £30 million to part with Gravenberch.
The Merseyside, meantime, is eager to have him join their team. They’ve been trying to sign a new midfielder for some time. There is a significant hole in the middle of the field with the departures of Jordan Henderson and Fabinho.
Despite adding Wataru Endo to the roster, they want to bring in another midfielder. The Liverpool manager is on the lookout for a younger player with long-term potential. And Gravenberch would be a wonderful asset to have on board.
Tanzi claims that the Reds have been in contact with Bayern and that the 21-year-old is very close to signing with the English club. He didn’t show up to this morning’s practice, therefore he could be considering a transfer.
