Garnacho’s brother sent fans ‘confusing hint’ about youngster’s new shirt number

The brother of Manchester United striker Alejandro Garnacho may have alluded to a probable change in jersey number.

Garnacho quickly advanced and made his senior debut in 2022 after joining United’s youth squads from Atletico Madrid back in 2020.

He has now gained a reputation as one of the club’s top young prospects to have ever emerged from the ranks.

Since making his debut for the Old Trafford club, Garnacho has always wore the number 49 shirt.

However, there have been rumors in recent months that he would get the number seven jersey when Cristiano Ronaldo leaves the team.

But Mount, a summer signing, eventually received the number 7.

Now, Roberto Garnacho, the 19-year-old’s brother, has made a possible number change suggestion.

Roberto shared a photo of Ronaldo sporting the number 17 shirt for Portugal on social media.

Fans have speculated that Garnacho might get that jersey number as a result of this.

Furthermore, Garnacho’s prospective new number may have an effect on summer acquisition Hojlund.

After Fred’s departure, it was widely anticipated that Hojlund might get the number 17 jersey.

With the bombshell revealed by Garnacho’s brother, Hojlund may end up with the number 11, as Mason Greenwood is not likely to return to the team.

As a result, Garnacho may go from number 49 to number 17, while incoming striker Hojlund will receive number 11.

It was revealed earlier this month that United and Greenwood had come to the conclusion that the forward’s continued professional development outside of Old Trafford is the wisest course of action.

“I want to start by saying that I understand that people will judge me based on what they have seen and heard on social media, and I know people will think the worst,” Greenwood said in a statement.
