Transfer hunter Fabrizio Romano recently read the familiar ‘Here we go’ tagline for the Joao Cancelo deal. The Portuguese defender is set to fly to Barcelona tonight for a medical check-up.
The deal will take place under a loan agreement, with an option to buy permanently next season. The two clubs Man City and Barcelona are finalizing the final details before the deal is done.
Cancelo spent the second half of last season with Bayern Munich on loan, but the German club did not activate the 70 million euro buy-out clause for this player, because Cancelo’s performance was not impressive. Returning to Man City this summer, the defender fell out of favor after falling out with Pep Guardiola and was forced to leave again.
In 3 and a half seasons playing for the Etihad Stadium team, Joao Cancelo has 9 goals, and 22 assists in 154 matches, helping the club win the Premier League 3 times. Last season, by playing for Bayern Munich in phase 2, Cancelo won 2 domestic titles (Premier League and Bundesliga).
