Darwin Nunez’s masterclass sinks Newcastle despite LFC playing with 10 men

Despite having 10 men on the field, Liverpool came back to defeat Newcastle thanks to a strong second half performance.

Liverpool beat a strong Newcastle team for the second time this season as they attempted to make it two wins in a row.

Despite the Reds being a man down fairly early in the game, Eddie Howe’s team could not hold off Jurgen Klopp’s team.

Liverpool defeated Newcastle 2-1 at Saint James Park thanks to a late-game charge in the second half.

Prior to Van Dijk’s red card, Newcastle’s Anthony Gordon scored the game’s opening goal. However, Dawin Nunez scored two goals in quick succession to give Liverpool hope.

As it actually was

After Newcastle United’s defeat by Manchester City the previous Saturday, Eddie Howe kept the same starting lineup.

Joelinton, a Brazilian midfielder who was substituted against Manchester City due to injury, kept his place.

Jurgen Klopp made two changes to the Liverpool team that defeated Bournemouth the previous time out, benching Diogo Jota in the process.

Ibrahima Konate replaced by Joel Matip and Wataru Endo in the starting lineup as a result of Konate’s absence due to a muscular issue.

Both teams launched end-to-end attacks to start the game, but none of them were able to break the tie.

However, former Blue Anthony Gordon delivers a hammer blow to the Reds in the 26th minute.

When the ball slipped under Trent Alexander-Arnold’s boot, Gordon was able to charge into the area and slip a shot under Alisson as a result.

The Reds were given a red card by the referee in the following minute, which rocked Liverpool.

In an effort to get possession of the ball and advance toward goal, Virgil van Dijk was given a straight red for dribbling through Alexander Isak. After reviewing it, VAR decided to support the referee’s choice.

Liverpool came back strong in the second half despite having an early red card shown to Van Dijk.

Darwin Nunez was brought in to replace Alexis Mac Allister in the 77th minute to help Liverpool in attack.

Their pressure paid off in the 81st minute when the ball broke into the path of Darwin Nunez who moved past Sven Botman as Diogo Jota threaded a pass through.

It gives the recently-introduced forward room and a sight of goal and he takes full advantage with a rasping drive into the far bottom corner.

Shortly after, in the 93rd minute, Nunez was found in the box again by Mohamed Salah but did not hesitate and lashed in a shot past Nick Pope.

The referee blew the final whistle as Liverpool completed a miraculous comeback with ten men against Newcastle.
