According to reports, Manchester United has been given the opportunity to sign Barcelona star Marcos Alonso. The former Chelsea star is the most recent player to be linked with a move to Old Trafford, and Erik ten Hag has to bring in a new left-back.

In the 3-2 victory over Nottingham Forest on Saturday, Ten Hag was compelled to start Diogo Dalot at left-back. Due to a muscle issue, Luke Shaw will need to sit out for a while.

Tyrell Malacia is also absent due to an injury that he sustained during preseason. He still has a few weeks before he can compete again.

Ryan Bertrand, a former Chelsea and Southampton left-back, is one candidate United has reportedly explored. But it seems like Ten Hag is only considering him as one of several choices.

According to a report from 90min, Alonso is the most recent contender. According to reports, United has also been given the option to recruit Marc Cucurella of Chelsea and Sergio Reguilon of Tottenham.

In Barcelona’s first two La Liga games of the season, Alonso has been absent from the lineup. On August 8, he last participated in a preseason game against Tottenham.

According to the same report, United is looking into the possibility of a left-back short-term loan till January.
