Overwhelmed with the David Beckham-like ‘unbelievable’ offer to Mo Salah as Saudis want Liverpool ace to replace Ronaldo as face of league

AL-ITTIHAD have made Mohamed Salah a David Beckham-like offer to tempt him to Saudi Arabia, SunSport can reveal.

The mega-rich side are desperate to sign the Liverpool striker and want him to replace Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema as the face of the Saudi Pro League.

An offer similar to what David Beckham was offered to join MLS has been made

Al-Ittihad, who are managed by former Spurs and Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo, have offered Liverpool £150million for the superstar.

A five-year contract is on the table, with a near-£100million basic salary, a private jet or unlimited plane tickets for his family and an offer to become an ambassador for tourism and investments in Saudi Arabia – which will further boost the player’s pay.

In total the deal would eclipse the £173m salary of Ronaldo at Al-Nassr.

There is also the possibility to have shares of a team in the future, as the Saudi government and League want teams to be owned by private owners mid term.

The proposal has similarities to that which lured David Beckham to MLS in 2007.

When the England legend left Real Madrid for LA Galaxy, part of the deal enabled him to set up his own MLS team in the future.

Since then, he has seized the chance and established Inter Miami, who in their brief history have generated news all over the world by signing Lionel Messi in the summer.

According to SunSport, Al-Ittihad is frantically trying to get Salah and will keep up the pressure until the Saudi Pro League’s transfer market closes on September 20.

As a result of his enormous influence and status as a celebrity in the Middle East Arabic nations and Gulf peninsula, the Egyptian striker is seen as a more important asset for the nation than any of the signings thus far.

He would make a terrific “diplomatic” contribution to Saudi Arabia’s effort to become the dominant force in the region.

He is also viewed as the long term face of the league.

Benzema, 35, who made the move over the summer on a £3.3m-a-week deal, and Ronaldo, 38, are expected to hang up their boots within two years whereas Salah, at 31, can have a longer-term impact.

There are also rumours that Al-Ittihad boss Nuno Espirito Santo is not a fan of Benzema’s style of play.

Liverpool reportedly does not want to sell Salah.

The Egyptian international became Liverpool’s highest-paid player with an estimated weekly salary of £400,000 after signing a new three-year contract there only last summer.

It is said that the 187-goal forward for the Reds will have to force Jurgen Klopp to let him go.

When Salah erupted after being replaced in the 77th minute of the opening-day 1-1 tie against Chelsea, the relationship between the two seemed strained.

He shook his head and aggressively tore off the wrist tape before ignoring Klopp and storming into the dugout to take a seat.

But it is Klopp who will be left furious by more Saudi interest in one of his stars.

He sold captain Jordan Henderson to Al-Ettifaq for an initial £12 million and Fabinho to Al-Ittihad for £40 million after receiving exit requests from both players.

Henderson, a 33-year-old England star midfielder who plays for Steven Gerrard’s Liverpool club, is now making £700,000 each week.

Klopp has asked Fifa to step in and change the transfer window dates since Saudi Arabia’s transfer window closes more than three weeks after England’s deadline on September 1.

Especially if players have release clauses, he thinks it puts clubs in danger of losing stars to Saudi and not being able to recruit replacements.
