Pep Guardiola, the head coach of Manchester City, underwent back surgery in Barcelona on Tuesday. He is anticipated to be sidelined until after the September international break.
Guardiola “has recently experienced severe back pain and recently flew to Barcelona to undergo emergency surgery by Dr. Mireia Illueca,” according to City.
According to Mundo Deportivo, the procedure went successful, and the former FC Barcelona manager will stay in Barcelona for a few weeks to recover.
In his absence, City’s assistant coach Juanma Lillo will oversee first-team matters and lead the team for the forthcoming Premier League games against Fulham and Sheffield United.
