Following last weekend’s home win over AFC Bournemouth, the Reds were back at work on Tuesday to build up to their clash with the Magpies on Sunday.

Trent Alexander-Arnold and Luis Diaz were both permitted to participate in Tuesday’s Liverpool practice.

On Saturday, the Reds defeated Bournemouth 3-1 in their opening home Premier League match of the new campaign, despite the fact that both players had injury concerns and were substituted as a precaution.

Given that both are well enough to take part in an early training session and that Jurgen Klopp’s team is due to play Newcastle United at St. James’ Park on Sunday afternoon, this news will be regarded as a very positive development.

“[Trent] told me he had a kick which was pretty painful,” Klopp said on Saturday. “But as far as a twist or fall, it was a kick. That’s why we changed then but I hope he will be fine.”

Diaz also received treatment after being withdrawn late on but is fit and ready for selection for Sunday’s game against the team who pipped them to a top-four place last term.

Curtis Jones, however, was not pictured in action after he missed Saturday’s game with an ankle issue. The England Under-21 international was likely still rehabbing the issue ahead of a comeback and Klopp will deliver the latest fitness update in his Friday press conference at the AXA Training Centre.

Elsewhere, new signing Wataru Endo was able to undertake another session with his new team-mates following his sudden switch from Stuttgart for around £16m last week.

The weekend saw the Japan international make his Reds debut as he came on as a substitute after Alexis MacAllister was sent from the game.

Endo was spotted learning some tactical tips from Klopp as the 30-year-old gets up to speed ahead of the weekend trip to Newcastle. Mac Allister, a former player for Stuttgart, may now play a significant role in the North East after receiving a red card and being dismissed.

Thiago Alcantara and Stefan Bajcetic were not seen, and Klopp will mention the Spanish duo in his most recent update when he addresses the media on Friday at the training facility.
