Former teammate and friend Gerard Pique will serve as Carles Puyol’s supervisor when he makes a comeback to professional football. Puyol is an icon of Barcelona and Spain.
Puyol will join FC Andorra’s transfer team this summer, according to Diari d’Andorra (via MD). Pique is the owner of the Segunda team Andorra, which is led by former Barcelona assistant Eder Sarabia.
Since his retirement, Puyol has taken on a variety of responsibilities. He once worked as an agent with Ivan de la Pena until joining Barcelona’s transfer team in 2014. After Sporting Director Andoni Zubizarreta was fired, Puyol left his position.
It is not yet known what job he would hold with Andorra, although it would be one under Jaume Noguera, the current sporting director. The Catalan newspaper also mentions that Puyol, who is currently a resident of Andorra, attended a number of games last season.Puyol has led a very quiet existence after leaving the sport, participating in sporadic matches for legends and veterans and having brief involvements at clubs. After two games, Andorra is second in Segunda after placing seventh in their inaugural campaign there last year.
