Anthony Martial of Manchester United has reportedly attracted the interest of several Saudi Arabian clubs, igniting rumors of a potential departure from Old Trafford before the end of the summer transfer window.
Due to a hamstring injury incurred late in the previous season, the French forward, 27, missed all of the Red Devils’ preseason games.
Martial did make a brief appearance in the closing seconds of United’s 2-0 loss to Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday, despite sitting on the bench during their Premier League debut against Wolverhampton Wanderers.Rasmus Hojlund, a recent addition to the team, recently suffered an injury, leaving United with little options up front. Due to this, Marcus Rashford has been used as the central striker thus far this season.Ineffective performances by Rashford against Wolves and Spurs raised questions about whether coach Erik ten Hag had meant to sign a second forward in addition to Hojlund this summer. However, unless certain players leave before the transfer window closes, United may have trouble finding another striker due to Financial Fair Play laws. The fates of Harry Maguire, Scott McTominay, and Eric Bailly are still up for debate, and Ten Hag has intimated that players like Brandon Williams and Donny van de Beek might be moving.According to The Mirror, clubs in Saudi Arabia have expressed a strong interest in Martial, who may be among those ready to go. West Ham United is rumored to be interested as well, but it’s doubtful that they could match the Saudi Pro League’s financial proposals. It’s interesting to note that Al-Hilal had initially considered Martial as a possible replacement for Aleksandar Mitrovic. But they just recently signed Mitrovic away from Fulham.Martial joined United in 2015 after being transferred from Monaco. Since then, he has represented the Red Devils 299 times in all competitions, scoring 88 goals and dishing out 53 assists. He could only play in 29 games the previous season, but he still managed to score nine goals. There have been rumors that United are interested in signing a new defensive midfielder, however, it’s unlikely they would approve of Martial’s departure in the absence of a suitable replacement. The Red Devils are getting ready to host Nottingham Forest at home the next weekend, keen to put their most recent loss behind them.
