Via BBC Sport, coach Pep Guardiola praised Phil Foden after Man City’s 1-0 win over Newcastle United.
Foden took on the role of Man City’s conductor when Kevin De Bruyne was absent due to injury. The young England star created seven chances, including the assist for Julian Alvarez to score the only goal of the game.
“Phil Foden is so useful,” said Guardiola. “He can play many positions. You are a real threat. I am very pleased, especially with the way Foden communicates with people. He has the right mentality. That is the most important thing.”
Guardiola also pointed to the mental strength of his players when defeating a formidable team like Newcastle United.
“There are no words to express my gratitude for the performance the players gave,” the Spaniard added. “They played really well. I talked about mentality. The reason we won was because of spirit and we proved it again.
The match was played at a good tempo. I don’t see the players too tired. It wasn’t easy to make changes so I didn’t do it.”
