Man United was a big disappointment when they lost 0-2 to Tottenham Hotspur, but Andre Onana’s performance still deserves praise.
The Cameroon star joined the Reds from Ajax earlier this summer, and kept a clean sheet on his club debut against Wolverhampton Wanderers earlier in the week. Andre Onana could not maintain that record in the trip to Tottenham. Despite conceding 2 goals, the 27-year-old goalkeeper had a reliable performance in the wooden frame.
Onana was not at fault in either goal. Besides, he completed 22 of his 28 passes, with 4 successful long passes. The former Inter Milan goalkeeper won 100% of the airfights, and made 5 saves.
Admittedly Onana has impressive footwork, and is really calm – something David de Gea lacks. But he couldn’t do much to stop Pape Matar Sarr’s goal. Spurs then made it 2-0 thanks to an own goal from Lisandro Martinez. Onana is not at fault either. His confidence is essential for Man United right now. Once Onana and their teammates understand each other better, the Red Devils’ gameplay promises to run smoothly.
