Welcome to Liverpool, Wataru Endo 🤝

Wataru Endo, a midfielder, has been acquired by Liverpool for £19 million from Stuttgart.

The 30-year-old international from Japan has committed to the Reds on a four-year deal as Jurgen Klopp tries to bolster the midfield of his squad.

It happens after Chelsea outbid them for both Moises Caicedo of Brighton and Romeo Lavia of Southampton.

Endo told the club’s website: “I’m really delighted right now and I’m so excited to join a big team in Liverpool. I’m going to join Liverpool subject to receiving a work permit and passing international clearance.

“I’m living my fantasy, and it feels amazing. I’ve always wanted to play for one of the biggest clubs in the world in the Premier League. My fantasy has come true with this.

Endo has made 133 appearances for Bundesliga club Stuttgart, scoring 15 goals and registering 12 assists since joining from Belgian club Sint-Truiden.

He was the captain of Stuttgart and is currently the captain of Japan, for whom he has 50 appearances.

Now he is playing alongside Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai in the new-look Liverpool midfield.

He continued, “I’ll be playing at Anfield for the first time. I cannot wait to perform in front of Liverpool fans at Anfield.

“I compete as a No. 6 and I am primarily a defensive player. I believe I can assist this team defensively, and I will be well-organized in the midfield. I believe that is my duty.

“I am thrilled to be joining this club, and I look forward to seeing you at Anfield!”

Endo, despite being a midfielder, will don No. 3 for Liverpool.

This is an unusual selection, as the No. 3 spot is typically given to a defender.

Nonetheless, former midfielder Fabinho, who departed the team earlier this summer, also wore the jersey.

Klopp stated to LFCTV, “I’m very pleased. Wataru is a very talented performer.

“I understand how things work in the realm of football, but take a good look at him because he’s a fantastic football player.

“Experienced player, captain of Stuttgart and Japan, fluent in English, good-natured, a family man, a machine on the field, and a fine footballer on top of that, with a phenomenal attitude. I am thus extremely pleased.

“He’s a good footballer, very experienced, and he loves to work extremely hard.”

Liverpool CONFIRM the £19 million acquisition of Wataru Endo and assign him a unique shirt number following Caicedo and Lavia’s rejections

Finally, after weeks of rumors, uncertainties, and sagas, our Liverpool has signed its third summer reinforcement. Wataru Endo arrived to Anfield from Stuttgart on a four-year contract for €18 million, and while his signing surprised fans, it appears that Endo will be a valuable addition to the team.

Unlike what transpired with Romeo Lavia for weeks and Moises Caicedo in a brief but fast-paced saga, the signing of Wataru Endo was done promptly and without fuss or drama. Wataru Endo stated that when he learned of Liverpool’s interest, he had no reservations and that this accelerated negotiations between the boards, and they are the types of players that fans prefer.

After signing his contract and passing the medicals, the 30-year-old Japanese midfielder is now officially a new player at England’s biggest club. He is expected to play a key part this season, especially if the Anfield board fails to buy another defensive midfielder, which could still happen in the next two weeks of the transfer market

For the time being, Endo will have to focus on integrating into the group and putting himself under the orders of Jürgen Klopp, who appears to be unable to rely on him for the match against Bournemouth due to Wataru’s lack of a work permit, but we will undoubtedly see him in the call-up for our Liverpool’s third game of the season. Wataru Endo was greeted by a club icon and the team’s top star, Mohamed Salah, on his first day at the AXA Training Center.
