Man United’s strongest XI (4-2-3-1) vs Tottenham as Erik ten Hag set to make a BIG change

After escaping with a rather fortuitous three points against Wolves, Manchester United will be eager to play better against Tottenham on Saturday. In light of how his squad played against Wolves, Erik ten Hag may make changes, especially when selecting his frontline, in the hopes of giving his club new life. We look at the possible starting lineup for the Dutch manager.

Goalkeeper – Andre Onana

It is difficult to imagine Andre Onana not playing every Premier League game this season until United signs a new No 2. Against Wolves, the former Ajax star offered hints of why the Red Devils paid £47.2 million for his services this summer, and he is set to be used extensively against Tottenham as well. In addition, Onana will be trying to stay out of the spotlight after bringing down Wolves replacement Sasa Kalajdzic in what PMGOL claim should have been a penalty.

Defence: Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Raphael Varane, Lisandro Martinez, Luke Shaw

Lisandro Martinez was replaced by Victor Lindelof at half-time against Wolves after sustaining a minor knock, but the Argentina international has now returned to training and Ten Hag has said that he ‘thinks’ he will be fit. Thus, it is hard to see there being any changes made across the backline for United, with Aaron Wan-Bissaka the ideal fullback to try and keep Heung-Min Son under control.

Midfield: Bruno Fernandes, Casemiro, Christian Eriksen

Mason Mount has struggled to make any kind of impact against Wolves, however, speaking at his pre-match press conference, Ten Hag remained supportive of Mason Mount. As a result, Masin looks set to still be part of United’s midfield trio with Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro.

Forwards: Antony, Jadon Sancho, Marcus Rashford

With Rasmus Hojlund still ruled out through injury, Ten Hag will be relying on one of his wingers to lead the line against Tottenham. Marcus Rashford was uncharacteristically ineffective through the middle against Wolves, and it may be wise for the No 10 to play in his preferred position to avoid a downturn in form.

Jadon Sancho could lead the line for United

Given that Alejandro Garnacho was equally underwhelming, bringing Jadon Sancho back into the United attack to play as a makeshift striker may be the next step for Ten Hag. The ex-Borussia Dortmund star was trialled in the role throughout pre-season and emerged with credit, though this will be a significantly different task.
