De Bruyne, 32, hobbled off the pitch at Turf Moor in the Premier League opener and has since undergone surgery.

The Belgian midfielder flew to Antwerp for the procedure and has now given an update to fans.

Taking to Instagram, De Bruyne posted two pictures of himself while on crutches with bandaging on his leg.

He wrote: “The news after the Burnley game was a really big blow for me physically and mentally.

“Now the surgery is done, I’m ready to heal my body and get back to work soon.

“Thank you all for the support.”

And De Bruyne received plenty of support from his fellow footballing stars.

City team-mate Erling Haaland replied to his post with a blue heart.

Ex-City star Pablo Zabaleta wrote: “Get well soon, Kevin .”

Former Belgium international pal Radja Nainggolan commented: “Stay strong buddy.”

Gerard Deulofeu said: “We gonna miss your football.”

JJ Watt, an NFL star and investor in Burnley, continued, “Get well soon Kev, wishing you a very speedy and successful recovery.”

Lucas Paqueta of West Ham had been mentioned as a potential replacement by Man City, although a transfer seems improbable.
